Albuquerque, NM ( - The New Mexico Bowl was bereft of big plays, but Kent Myers accounted for two of them as Utah State grinded out a 21-6 victory over UTEP on Saturday. Myers ran for a 48-yard touchdown in the first quarter and set up a Nick Vigil TD run in the third with a 46-yard pass to JoJo Natson. The Aggies were otherwise stagnant on offense, but so were the Miners, who converted 5-of-20 third-down tries and managed just 149 rushing yards, well below their season average of 212. Utah State (10-4) reached double-digit wins for the second time in school history and posted its third straight postseason victory. The Miners (7-6) were hoping to end their campaign the way they started -- with a win at University Stadium in Albuquerque. They upended New Mexico there in the season opener behind Aaron Jones 237 yards and three TDs on the ground, but Jones was limited to 88 yards on 25 carries in the finale. Jameill Showers completed 13-of-24 passes for 126 yards and an interception in defeat. A quiet opening half ended with Utah State clinging to a 7-3 lead, and there were not many fireworks in the second half other than the Aggies 7-play, 75- yard drive to start the third quarter. Natson caught a slant over the middle and zigzagged through the defense down to the UTEP 24-yard line. Myers ran it down to the 3 with a 14-yard run on third down, and Vigil punched it in from there. After Nick Diaz missed a 47-yard field goal with under 10 minutes to play, UTEP held the ball for nearly seven minutes thanks to a pair of fourth-down conversions. Faced with a 4th-and-6 from the Utah State 16-yard line, the Miners opted for a field goal, and Jay Mattox booted a 34-yarder to cut the deficit to one possession with 3:02 remaining. Rather than attempt an onside kick, UTEP opted to kick the ball deep, and Mattox shanked it out of bounds. Joe Hill sealed the win and Utah States 279-yard day on the ground with an 11-yard touchdown run. Mattox kicked a 32-yard field goal with 3:10 remaining in the first quarter, but on the third play of the ensuing drive, Myers took a shotgun draw 48 yards for a score. The freshman QB faked a screen pass, kept it himself up the middle, slipped past a defender at the 45 and outran everyone else before diving over the goal line. Both teams made costly mistakes just before halftime. Following a second straight Myers turnover, the Miners lined up for a chip shot field goal try, only to have the holder drop the snap. Utah States Ronald Butler had a touchdown run called back in the closing seconds because of an illegal formation penalty, and Diaz proceeded to hook a 28-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the half. Game Notes The Aggies won 11 games in 2012 ... Utah State was 1-6 in bowl games prior to winning three in a row ... The Miners fell to 5-9 all-time in bowl appearances, with all five of their wins coming in the Sun Bowl ... Utah State won the only other two meetings in 1960 and 61 ... Myers completed only 5- of-12 passes for 68 yards with an interception. He also lost a fumble.

. Bibeau, Torontos sixth-round pick at No. 172 overall in last years draft, was named the outstanding goaltender of the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup.BERLIN -- Bayer Leverkusen held Bayern Munich to 1-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, ensuring neither side could take full advantage of Borussia Dortmunds earlier 2-0 loss at Borussia Moenchengladbach. Bayern was unable to turn almost complete domination into goals at Leverkusen, despite boasting more than two-thirds possession and outshooting the home side by 27 shots to five. Toni Kroos fired Bayern ahead in the 29th minute, when Franck Ribery pulled the ball back for the unmarked former Leverkusen player to rifle his shot under the crossbar. Leverkusen pulled one back out of nothing a minute later, when goalkeeper Manuel Neuer failed to deal with Lars Benders cross and then parried Sebastian Boenischs shot from the rebound to Sidney Sam, who scored from close range. Thomas Mueller should have restored Bayerns lead five minutes later when he headed over with the goal at his mercy, and Bayern missed a host more chances with Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno in inspired form. "Leverkusen played with 11 players and one of these players was Bernd Leno. When Leno is such an outstanding goalkeeper ..." Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said. Mueller might have had a penalty in the second half, when he appeared to be pulled back by Omer Toprak, yet Bayern had ample other opportunities. "I dont know. We did everything," Guardiola said. "Congratulations to my players. Were first in the table. Im proud of our performance. We played very, very well. And thats football." Bayern moved one point ahead of Dortmund, which is level with Leverkusen after eight games. Dortmund dominated its game in Moenchengladbach but was dealt a blow when Mats Hummels was sent off after conceding a penalty by fouling Havard Nordtveit with 10 minutes to go. Max Kruse scored from the spot a minute later, five minutes before Juan Arango set up Raffael to seal Dortmunds first defeat of the season. "The defeat is down to our own stupidity," Dortmund winger Kevin Grosskreutz said. "Gladbach have a very good team, which we dominated over 80 minutes. If only wed scored." Dortmund had 27 shots on goal compared to the home sides six, but failed to get past Gladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. "The 2-0 was clearly undeserved after 90 minutes," acknnowledged Moenchengladbach coach Lucien Favre.dddddddddddd Dortmund came one game short of equaling the club record of scoring in 32 consecutive Bundesliga games. "Football can be unjust. We had to learn that at first hand today," Dortmund attacking midfielder Jonas Hoffman said. Elsewhere, promoted Eintracht Braunschweig defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 for its first Bundesliga win in 28 years, Mainz came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Hoffenheim, Schalke defeated 10-man Augsburg 4-1, and Stuttgart drew 1-1 at home with Werder Bremen. Braunschweigs win at local rival Wolfsburg was its first top-flight victory since a 2-1 win at Bayer Uerdingen on June 1, 1985. This is its first season back in the Bundesliga. "Its a very special day for the whole club," said Karim Bellarabi, who fired the visitors into the lead for the first time this season in the 31st minute. Wolfsburg dominated possession but Domi Kumbela secured the result on a counterattack in the 86th. "The pondering paid off this week," said Braunschweig coach Torsten Lieberknecht, referring to comments last week when he hinted at resigning after the 4-0 defeat at home to Stuttgart. In Mainz, Hoffenheim striker Kevin Volland marched past five defenders before unleashing a shot beyond Heinz Mueller in the 14th, and Robert Firmino chipped the goalkeeper eight minutes later. Mainz substitute Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting pulled one back in the 82nd, before captain Nikolce Noveski secured an unlikely equalizer in injury time. Bremen had Nils Petersons 37th-minute goal to thank for cancelling out Stuttgart striker Martin Harniks sixth-minute opener. Augsburg striker Sascha Moelders stunned Schalke fans in Gelsenkirchen when he fired the visitors ahead in the 10th minute. But Kevin-Prince Boateng equalized with a penalty six minutes later, after Ragnar Klavan was sent off for hauling down Adam Szalai. "Everyone saw the key moment of the game. We were very much in the game up to the sending off," said Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl. Szalai made it 2-1 in the 28th, when Roman Neustaedter sprung the offside trap and Atsuto Uchida set him up for a simple finish, and the Hungarian striker grabbed his second in the 78th, before Max Meyer wrapped it up in the 87th.
