LIVERPOOL, N.S. -- Kelsey Rocque remains the only unbeaten womens skip at the Canadian junior curling championships. The Alberta skip improved to 5-0 with a 7-5 victory over Saskatchewans Kristen Streifel on Monday. In other womens Draw 9 play, British Columbias Kalia Van Osch defeated Northwest Territories Carina McKay-Saturino 7-5. New Brunswick downed Newfoundland and Labrador 9-4, Nova Scotia held off P.E.I. 9-6, Manitoba edged Northern Ontario 9-8 and Quebec cruised past Nunavat 10-4. On the mens side, Manitobas Braden Calvert kept his perfect record at 5-0 with a 10-5 victory against Newfoundland and Labradors Stephen Trickett. In the other late match, British Columbias Cameron de Jong hammered Matthew Miller of the Northwest Territories 14-3. Fourteen mens and 14 womens teams are competing for Canadian titles, with the winning teams earning the right to represent Canada at the World Juniors in Flims, Switzerland on Feb. 26.

. Im very excited about the playoffs, particularly in the Western Conference with amazing match-ups, as well as the wonderful local story in the Toronto Raptors. It should be a blast. Here are my predictions, but based upon my lousy prognostications during the NCAA Tournament, you might be better off going the other way on some of mine - particularly with the Raptors, who I hope and pray are able to win an incredibly difficult match-up.

TORONTO -- The Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League have hired Gord Dineen as their new head coach. Dineen replaces Steve Spott, who was promoted to Randy Carlyles coaching staff with the NHLs Toronto Maple Leafs. Dineen, 51, had served as an assistant coach with the Marlies for the past five seasons. Over that span, the Marlies posted a record of 202-139-17-30 and won three consecutive North Division championships and one Western Conference title. Dineen led the Iowa Chops to a record of 33-33-0-14 in 2008-09 in his only other stint as an AHL head coach. Throughout his coaching career, Dineen has also been an assistant coach with the Springfield Falcons, Utah Grizzlies, San Antonio Rampaage and Portland Pirates.dddddddddddd Prior to joining the coaching ranks, the Toronto native registered 106 points (16 goals, 90 assists) in 528 NHL games as a defenceman with the New York Islanders, Minnesota North Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators.
